Organizational Readiness Checklist
Legal and Governance
- Your organization is properly registered (501(c)(3), LLC, nonprofit, etc.)
- You have an active board or leadership team with documented roles
- You have recent board meeting minutes showing strategic oversight
- Your bylaws or governance documents are current
Financial Readiness
- You have audited or reviewed financial statements (if required)
- You have a realistic budget aligned with your program plans
- You can account for all funding sources and how funds are used
- You have financial management policies in place
- You maintain a financial reserve or sustainability plan
Program Readiness
- Your programs are clearly defined with documented goals
- You can articulate the problem you’re solving and why it matters
- You have a plan for how you’ll measure success
- You understand your target community and their needs
- You have evidence or data supporting your approach
Administrative Readiness
- You have a unique identifier (UEI, EIN, or equivalent)
- You’re registered in SAM.gov (if required for federal grants)
- You have a grants manager or designated staff member
- You can track grant compliance and reporting requirements
Common Gaps and How to Address Them
Weak financial systems? Invest in accounting software and training. Funders need confidence in your financial stewardship.
No program evaluation plan? Work with us to develop measurable outcomes and an evaluation framework.
Unclear governance? Strengthen your board or leadership structure and document decision-making processes.
